Chennai: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband near a bus stand in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli on Sunday. After committing the cold-blooded murder, the man walked into a nearby police station and surrendered.
The accused, identified as Sudhakar from Palamadai, and his wife Pechiyammal have two children. They had been livin
g separately due to various disputes and differences of opinion.
Police said the incident took place when Pechiyammal had gone out for some work. Sudhakar allegedly followed her and waited for an opportunity to confront her.
When Pechiyammal got down at the bus stand, Sudhakar allegedly pulled out a sickle and chased her in broad daylight. He then attacked her repeatedly, killing her on the spot.
Investigators suspect Sudhakar attacked his wife because he believed the latter was involved in an illicit relationship.
Police recovered Pechiyammal’s body and sent it to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College & Hospital for autopsy.
Sudhakar has been taken into custody by police, who have initiated a probe into the horrific killing.
