Tanuja Aich Murder: ‘Killer’ Husband Nabbed From Kolkata

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police reached the Odisha capital on Thursday with Sangram Aich, the husband of Tanuja who was found dead in Odisha capital on October 1. He was arrested from Kolkata on Wednesday night on charges of killing his wife and brought here on transit remand.

The body of the woman of Mangalpur in Jajpur district, was recovered from a vehicle at Sriram Nagar of Samantarapur in the city. Her family members had cried foul, alleging that she was murdered by Sangram. They also accused him of having extra-marital affairs.

Police had identified Sangram from the footage of CCTV cameras of a nearby shopping mall, where the vehicle was parked, and nabbed him by tracking his phone number.

The postmortem report had attributed the Tanuja’s death to heavy blow on her head. After receiving the his report, a team of Mangalpur police had raided the house of Tanuja at Anand Vihar in Nuagaon area in Jajpur on Wednesday evening and found the house locked. After breaking open the front door, police entered the rooms and found several articles lying scattered. Besides, broken bangles were also strewn all around the place.

Meanwhile, police have detained a female friend of Sangram for interrogation.

The Commissionerate Police, in course of the investigation, had called up an automobile engineer to examine the vehicle from which the body of Tanuja was recovered. The engineer had told the police that there was no possibility of any casualty under the impact of the accident since the engine and the dashboard had incurred minor damage.

The Commissionerate Police, during the examination of the footage from the CCTV which it had recovered from a shopping mall where the vehicle was parked, had found that after hitting his vehicle, Sangram had managed to drive it to a distance of about 50 metres. After stopping the vehicle, he was seen fleeing the area with his son.

On the basis of the statement of the engineer, police confirmed that the accused had brought Tanuja in the vehicle after killing her either in the house or at some other place.
