Looks like Tata Motors is inching towards becoming the Volvo of India. The new premium hatchback Altroz has scored full 5 stars in Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) crash test making it the second made-in-India car to achieve so.
The first to score 5 stars is Tata Nexon, which had earned the reputation of being the safest car under Rs 10 lakh.
The Altroz, which is scheduled to be launched on January 22, scored an impressive 16.13 points out of 17 in adult occupant protection.
The Altroz’s bodyshell was said to be stable and that it was ‘capable of withstanding further loadings’.
On the child protection front, the Altroz scored a lower 3 stars.
Tata Altroz is equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control, seatbelt reminder, speed alert system and Isofix anchorages as standard on every variant.
It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine making 86hp and 113Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel unit producing 90hp and 200Nm of torque. The Altroz will face competition from Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.
