Bhubaneswar/Berhampur: Golanthara Police of Ganjam district on Thursday produced the arrested Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Berhampur.
Acting on the direction of the SDJM court, police took Panigrahi from the Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning.
Reliable sources said the Golanthara police are most likely to appeal to the court to take Panigrahi on remand for further interrogation in connection with his involvement in the Tata Motors job fraud case.
The Crime Branch had arrested Panigrahi on December 3 last year in connection with a case of cheating. It was alleged that he had collected money on behalf of Akash Kumar Pathak, son of the suspended IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak, by making false promise of providing jobs in Tata Motors.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had expelled Panigrahi from the primary membership of the BJD on November 29 on charges of ‘anti-people activities’.
