Tata Showcases Exclusive Electric Vehicle Tech — ZIPTRON

As automobile makers hurry to bring in electric cars to India, Tata Motors showcased its new powertrain technology developed exclusively for electric vehicles.

The company has revealed that it will launch its first proper long range electric car in Q4 of 2020.

“We are proud to present this state-of-art technology brand – ZIPTRON, which has been designed in-house while utilizing our global engineering network,” said Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors.

Butschek further said ZIPTRON will be at the heart of Tata Motors’ future EVs. “This new technology will deliver a thrilling driving experience to our customers aspiring to go-green. Rigorously tested across 1 million km, ZIPTRON technology is well proven, advanced and reliable. With this technology, we hope to usher in a new wave of eMobility in India and accelerate faster adoption of EVs, supporting the government’s vision,” he added.

The new tech is expected to be used first in the Altroz concept, followed by electric versions of Tigor and Nexon. The reported target is to achieve a driving range of 250 km on a single charge.

The battery is liquid cooled and is packed in a solid IP67 case. It will deliver eight years of consistent performance. The powertrain is a permanent magnet AC motor with regenerative braking. The powertrain too has its own cooling circuit considering our hot weather.
