Mumbai: Tata Motors on Monday revealed the sub-metre small crossover – Punch.
It will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and other compact cars with high ground clearance. The ground clearance of Punch is 187 mm and has a wading depth of 370 mm.
What immediately catches attention is the Harrier-like front with split grille and slim DRLs. Like the Harrier, the main headlamp clusters are housed inside pods on the bumper.
The alloy wheels are 16-inch diamond-cut.
Features-wise, there is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic headlamps & rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control, iRA Connected Car Tech with What3Words & voice commands and more.
The Punch will have only one engine – 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 85 BHP. It has two drive modes – City and Eco. It will come with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. This is also a traction mode in the AMT variant for slippery surfaces.
Safety-wise, Tata has loaded the Punch with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Safety Control, Brake Sway Control that detects the tendency of instability during abrupt braking before the ABS kicks, and a rearview camera.
Bookings are open for Rs 21,000 and the Punch will be available in three variants.
