Malkangiri: A teacher of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Odisha’s Malkangiri was allegedly hacked to death by a peon of the school over a trivial issue on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Nirakar Sethy of Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district, was a mathematics teacher in the school in this town.
According to sources, the teacher found the school gate open when he went there. He asked peon Naresh Kshatriya to keep gate closed to ensure safety of school properties and garden.
At this, the peon got furious. In a fit of rage, he picked up an axe and allegedly attacked Sethy.
The teacher was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where he succumbed to injuries during treatment, sources said.
On being informed, police detained the accused and further investigation into the incident is underway, they added.
