Sambalpur: A teacher of an English medium school was detained by the police for alleged harassment of a girl student of a girl student at Bareipali in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
The accused, identified as Arun Kumar Joshi, is reported to be an English teacher at Panchagachia Kendriya Vidyalaya located under the jurisdiction of Bareipali police station, sources said.
As per preliminary information, the girl student together with her friends was inside a classroom when Joshi appeared and asked the other girls to go out of the room. He then allegedly misbehaved with the girl, who later told the family members about the incident.
After getting information about the incident, association of parents and guardians raised protest and approached the school chairperson for action against the teacher. School authorities reportedly informed the police.
On being informed, senior officials, including the sub-collector, along with police personnel visited the school after which a case was registered. The officials received complaint from both parents and school authorities. A thorough investigation into the incident is underway and the accused teacher is being questioned.
