Balasore: A special POCSO court has sentenced a schoolteacher to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl student in Odisha’s Balasore district 4 years back.
As per the case, the teacher of Rampur under Simulia police station in the district, Basant Das, had lured the minor girl with chocolate and taken her to his house where he raped her in 2019. The girl’s parents had lodged a complaint against the teacher after the she told them about the incident.
The police had arrested Basant and investigated the case. They filed the chargesheet in the Special PCSO court.
After hearing the witnesses and verifying the evidence, judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar of the court convicted the teacher and sentenced him to 20-year rigorous imprisonment. The court also fined Rs 5,000 on the convict and ordered that if he failed to pay the fine, he will have to serve imprisonment of two more years.
Besides, the court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay monetary assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the girl’s family.
