Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a teacher allegedly tried to relieve the pain of hornet sting suffered by a girl student of a school with a hot knife in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday.
As per reports, the Class IV student of Asarala Upper Primary School in Bolagarh block of the district was stung by a hornet inside the school in the afternoon. While she was writhing in pain, teacher Sashmita Mohapatra heated a knife on a gas stove and pressed it on the place where the hornet had stung her.
Though the teacher claimed that it was supposed to relieve the pain, the student’s pain aggravated and the place, where the hot knife was placed, started swelling. She returned to her house and informed her farmily. They took her to a local hospital.
Later, when the student’s parents asked Mohapatra about the incident, she admitted that what she had done was a mistake. But she said she had no ill intention to hurt the student.
Headmaster Sushant Behera said it was a mistake on the part of the teacher to use the hot knife. She could have applied ointment or sent the student to the hospital.
