Baripada: A teacher and his wife were arrested by the police in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district for allegedly recording an obscene video of their adopted minor daughter and making it viral on social media.
The accused were identified as Ramchandra Soe (42) and his wife Jyotshna (35) of Soleibeda village under the jurisdiction of Thakurmunda police station in the district, sources said.
The minor girl, who hails from Soro area in Balasore district, was being looked after by her uncle from Soleibeda after the death of her mother.
Ramchandra, who happens to be a teacher at Badamahuldiha Tribal Residential School, and his wife Jyothshna do not have a child. They adopted the girl and brought her home.
It was alleged that Jyotshna recorded an objectionable video of Ramchandra and the minor girl and sent it to a WhatsApp number. The video was then circulated on social media. The matter came to the fore after several locals watched the video.
Taking a serious note of the incident, the locals held a meeting and decided to act against the couple.
The minor girl’s aunt subsequently lodged a complaint with the police at Thakurmunda and the couple was arrested under section 354 (A) (B) of IPC along with 67 (A) and 67 (B) of IT Act, police sources said.
