Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of teachers from various schools and colleges organised a mass demonstration near Gundicha Temple in Puri on Wednesday, demanding immediate fulfilment of their demands.
Holding placards, the agitators under the banner of Odisha
School and College Teachers’ Joint Committee, demanded the abolition of block grant system and hike in salary according to the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission.
“We have decided to hold a mass convention in Bhubaneswar tomorrow seeking fulfilment of our demands. Withdrawal of block grant system has been a longstanding and legitimate demand of the teaching fraternity. So, the state government should take proactive steps to solve our issues at the earliest, failing which similar protests will be organised in other parts of the state”, an agitator said.
