Patna: Pranav Pandey, father of Team India cricketer Ishan Kishan, joined Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) here on Sunday.
He was inducted into Bihar’s ruling party in the presence of its national working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha.
Assembly elections in Bihar are due next year, and it remains to be seen whether Pranav is fielded as a candidate.
“I am a soldier of the party and will work dedicatedly to strengthen it,” Pranav said after the formalities were completed.
Earlier Jha introduced Pranav.
“Pranav Pandey is joining our party, Janata Dal (United), due to his faith in chief minister Nitish Kumar… This will greatly strengthen our presence, especially in the Magadh region. He is the father of Ishan Kishan, an Indian cricketer and a prominent sports figure from Bihar,” the MP said.
Interestingly, Ishan plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand.
The left-hander wicketkeeper-batter holds the world record for the fastest ODI double century, reaching 200 in just 126 balls against Bangladesh. Ishan, having featured in 2 Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is, last played for India in November 2023. He left the tour of South Africa midway, and faced disciplinary issues.
Dropped from the BCCI central contracts earlier this year, Ishan recently made a comeback to the national set-up by being named in the 15-member India A squad for the upcoming Australia tour.
