Bhubaneswar: Team India had to settle for the fourth position at the Asia Rugby Sevens U18 Girls Championship played at Kalinga Stadium here.
After three consecutive wins, Team India lost miserably in the fourth match against Hong Kong, with the score card reading 50-7, on Sunday.
The girls failed to make a comeback in the next match for the bronze and conceded defeat to Thailand, 25-05.
In the closely-contested match against Sri Lanka on Saturday, India had come on the top with the score card reading 24-15. Sweety Kumari had single-handedly won the match for her team.
Earlier that day, Team India had an easy win in the one-sided match of 89-0 against Bangladesh.
They had put up an impressive show in front of the home crowd in the opener, beating UAE 22-5. All five players from Odisha – Sumitra Nayak (vice captain), Soni Mandangi, Jemamani Naik, Lija Sardar and Parbati Kisku – were in the team that was fielded for these matches.
Teams from 12 countries had participated in the event.
