Team Leaves For Nayagarh To Fetch Wood For Rath Yatra In Odisha’s Puri

Puri: The process for building chariots for Rath Yatra in Odisha’s Puri next year started on Monday with a team leaving for Nayagarh to fetch wood.

A three-member team, headed by the chief caretaker of the three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra left for Maa Badaraula temple in Nayagarh. They have taken necessary sacred materials after offering those to the Lords.

They will perform the puja with the materials in Maa Badaraula temple on Tuesday morning. Then they will start for identifying the trees whose wood would be used for construction of the three chariots.

As per the tradition, the wood of Phasi, Asana and Dhaura trees are used for chariot construction. Since the temple administration has 51 pieces of logs in stock from the last year, 814 more logs would be needed for chariot building this year.
