Bhubaneswar: To promote cleanliness in the Odisha capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday launched Team SHINE (Sanitation & Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment).
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange launched the initiative at a special programme.
According to BMC sources, 10 enforcement squads, comprising five members each under Team Shine, will undertake enforcement visits across the city to check illegal dumping of garbage. The teams will create awareness initially on maintaining clean environment and take strict actions thereafter against violators. Retired Army officials lead each enforcement squad.
“The primary objective behind establishing the SHINE team is to ensure that the city remains clean. A pristine environment adds to the city’s beauty. Initially, the team will work to instill a culture of cleanliness among residents through awareness initiatives. Subsequently, stringent actions will be initiated against the violators with fines of up to Rs 10,000,” said Kulange.
