‘Technical Anomaly’ Fails ISRO’s GSLV-F10 Launch In 3rd Stage

Bengaluru: After a 26-hour countdown, GSLV-F10 lifted off successfully from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, early on Thursday but it failed to put the EOS-3 earth observation satellite into orbit with the third stage of the engine not igniting.

“GSLV-F10 launch took place today at 0543 Hrs IST as scheduled. Performance of first and second stages was normal. However, Cryogenic Upper Stage ignition did not happen due to technical anomaly. The mission couldn’t be accomplished as intended,” the ISRO tweeted.

The GSLV-F10 rocket carrying earth observation satellite EOS-03 blasted off from the spaceport, it added.

The vehicle uses liquid fuel strap-on motors, a solid-fuel first stage, a liquid fuel second stage, and a cryogenic (liquefied gasses stored at extremely low temperatures) third stage.

A state-of-the-art agile Earth observation satellite, EOS-03, helps in quick monitoring of natural disasters like cyclones, cloudbursts and thunderstorms by providing near real-time imaging of large areas at frequent intervals.
