Teenage Girl, Lover Commit Suicide In Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A teenage girl and her lover reportedly committed suicide just after getting married at a village temple in Malkangiri district, police said on Thursday.

According to reports, villagers found the bodies hanging from a tree near a temple at MV-42 under Malkangiri Model police limits on Thursday morning and alerted police.

The deceased were identified as Sarita Sarkar and Vicky Sikdar.

Villagers told police that the two were in a relationship, which was opposed by their families. The duo had reportedly fled from their homes on Wednesday and got married before committing suicide.

Police sources said the bodies were found hanging with two towels and the girl’s forehead bore marks of sindoor (vermilion).

Though it’s suspected to be a case of suicide pact, police said they were trying to ascertain the exact cause of death.
