Bhubaneswar: The sweltering heat wave sweeping across Odisha tightened its grip with at least 25 places recording maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Wednesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the day temperature breached 42 degree Celsius in at least nine places in the state.
Nuapada was the hottest place in Odisha as the town sizzled under a temperature of 44 degree Celsius. It was followed by Jharsuguda with 43.4 degree, Talcher 43.2, Angul 43.1, Sambalpur 42.9, Bhubaneswar 42.8, Soneput 42.5, Rourkela 42.4, and Dhenkanal 42.3 degree Celsius.
The day temperature recorded a marginal rise in the state capital Bhubaneswar where the mercury stood at 42.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday. The millennium city of Cuttack recorded 41.6 degree Celsius today, up from 41 degree Celsius measured on Tuesday.
The MeT office said that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 5 days and the mercury may soar up to 42°C or more at a few places in interior Odisha – Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh – during next 3 days. “Consequently, hot & discomfort weather very likely to prevail and people are advised to take precautionary while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm,” it added.
