Bhubaneswar: For the first time this year, the day temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius in Odisha on Monday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), several places across the state witnessed rise in day temperature.
Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature of 40.4 degree Celsius, followed by Baripada with 40 degree Celsius.
While Bhubaneswar and Chandbali registered 39.7 degree Celsius each, Malkangiri and Boudh 39.5, Sonepur and Titlagarh 39.2, Cuttack 39.1 and Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Sundargarh 39 degree Celsius each.
The Met office forecast that temperature will continue to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during next 2-3 days at several places in the state under influence of dry and hot air coming from north-west direction.
The IMD also said thunderstorm with lightening is very likely at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Kalahandi and Sundargarh in next 12 hours.
