Bhubaneswar: Even as the IMD forecast that conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into Odisha, hot and humid weather continued to prevail with mercury crossing 40 degree Celsius in as many as 19 places on Thursday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, almost entire western Odisha came under the grip of heatwave as six places recorded maximum (day) temperature of more than 42 degree Celsius.
Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the state with maximum temperature of 43.4 degree Celsius. It was followed by Nuapada with 43, Sambalpur 42.8, Rourkela and Balangir 42.4 and Hirakud 42.1 degree Celsius.
The IMD said the northern Limit of monsoon continues to pass through Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri and Vizianagaram. Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and northwest Bay of Bengal during next 3-4 days, it added.
The Met office issued yellow warning and said thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Nuapada, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda,
Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati by 8.30 am of Friday.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur during the period. But heatwave condition is likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Boudh and Sonepur, it added.
