Bhubaneswar: The western region of Odisha remained the frying pan of the state as 5 stations in the region witnessed mercury going up to 45 degree Celsius or more on Saturday.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, as many as 28 places in the state recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on the day.

Sonepur was the hottest place in Odisha with a sizzling temperature of 45.7 degree Celsius, followed by Boudh with 45.5, Sambalpur 45.4, Hirakud 45.1 and Balangir 45 degree Celsius.

Similarly, Jharsuguda burnt under 44.8 degree Celsius, Angul 44.7, Sundargarh and Nayagarh 44.5 and Bargarh 44.4 degree Celsius. Bhubaneswar, which saw temperature shoot up to 44.6 degree Celsius on Friday registered 44.3 degree on Saturday.

Maximum temperature is very likely to remain above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places in the state during the period.

The Met office has issued orange warning stating that heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at many places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh and Kandhamal.

It has also issued yellow warning for Nuapada, Kalahandi, Ganjam and Jajpur where heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places.
