Bhubaneswar: With southwest monsoon advancing towards Odisha, temperature came down across the state with 10 places recording maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Tuesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur was the hottest place in the state with a temperature of 42.1 degee Celsius while two other western Odisha towns – Jharsuguda and Titlagarh – recorded 42 degree.
Hirakud registered 41.9 degree Celsius, Sonepur 41.8, Balangir 41.2, Sundargarh 41 degree.
It may be noted that as many as 22 places in the states recorded 40 degree Celsius with mercury shooting up to 45 degree on Saturday.
The IMD said conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon over some more parts of south Peninsular
India and some parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar during next 2-3 days.
While heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Balangir districts, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely at many places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal by 8.30 am on Wednesday.
