Bhubaneswar: Mercury continued to remain high in Bhubaneswar for third consecutive day as Sonepur emerged as the hottest place in Odisha on Thursday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sonepur recorded the highest maximum (day) temperature of 36.3 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded maximum temperature of 36.2 and 35.4 degree Celsius respectively on the day against 35 and 36.4 degree on Wednesday. Bhubaneswar had recorded 37 degree the previous day.
At least 17 places in the state registered day temperature of more than 35 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Sonepur and Bhubaneswar were followed by Talcher (36.2), Titlagarh (36), Boudh (36), Jharsuguda (35.7), Bhadrak (35.6), Dhenkanal (35.6), Bhawanipatna (35.5), Nayagarh (35.5), Balangir (35.5), Malkangiri (35.4), Angul (35.3), Balasore (35.2), Chandbali (35.2) and Jajpur (35.2).
The IMD, in a special bulletin, said minimum temperature observed appreciable rise at one or two places in north interior Odisha. It was markedly above normal at a few places in interior Odisha and costal districts.
Earlier, the weather forecaster said a cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh may trigger thunderstorm and lightning in some districts of Odisha. The state is also likely to experience light to moderate rain till February 28, it added.
