Bhubaneswar: Amid gruelling heatwave sweeping across Odisha, at least the day temperature shot up to 43 degree Celsius or more in at least 15 places of the state on Wednesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, as many as 28 places in the state registered maximum (day) temperature of 40 degree or more.
Similarly, the mercury soared up to 44 degree Celsius or above in at least seven places in the state.
Talcher was the hottest with 45 degree Celsius, followed by Boudh and Titilagarh with 44.5 egree, Nuapada 44.4 degree, Angul & Jharsuguda 44.3 degree and Balangir 44 degree Celsius.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 41.3 degree Celsius after recording the highest of 45.4 degree of this season on Tuesday. Cuttack recorded 41.5 degree Celsius.
Several parts of coastal Odisha received the much-needed respite from the scorching heatwave following nor-wester rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm.

According to the MeT office, the extreme heat will continue to torment the state till May 4. While red warning continues for two days, orange and yellow warnings remain during the subsequent two days. The day temperature is likely to remain 3-6°C above normal during the next 4-5 days due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during peak hours of the daytime between 11am and 3pm.
