Bhubaneswar: As Odisha continued to sizzle under intense heatwave conditions, at least 28 places recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or above on Wednesday.
According to Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Talcher turned out to be the hottest place in the state with maximum (day) temperature of 43.2 degree Celsius.
The coal town of Talcher was closely followed by Nuapada which recorded maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius.
The mercury soared above 41 degree Celsius in at least 18 places of the state, like on Tuesday. Similarly, the maximum temperature soared to 42 degree Celsius or more in at least nine places of the state.
Following Nuapada, both Boudh and Paralakhemundi recorded a maximum temperature of 42.8 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 42.7 degree Celsius in Angul and Nayagarh and 42.6 in Baripada, which was the hottest place in the state on Tuesday with 43.6 degree Celsius.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded maximum temperature of 41.7 degree Celsius, while Cuttack recorded 41.5 degree Celsius.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the day temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius in many places during the next two days.
It also issued orange warning for several areas for two days from Thursday and yellow warning for two more days thereafter.
It said that due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, day temperature is likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C at many places in the state during next 48 hrs.
Consequently, maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C or above at many places of the state and likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C in some areas during next three days.
In view of the severe heatwave conditions, the MeT Centre advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
