Bhubaneswar: With the day temperature hovering around 40 degree Celsius in most parts of the Odisha, the India Meteorological Department on Sunday warned of a heat wave-like condition in the state in the next 24 hours.
In a morning bulletin on Sunday, the IMD said that the western disturbance will result in the further rise in the day temperature by 1-2 degree Celsius in the next 24 hours from Monday.
There will be no substantial change in the weather conditions despite the cyclonic circulation formed over east Bihar and a trough running from north Kerala to south Chhattisgarh across interior Karnataka, Marathawada and Vidarbha, which will trigger thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one of two places in some districts for three days up to March 31, it added.
Meanwhile, the maximum day temperature recorded in the state in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday was the highest in Malkangiri at 40 degree Celsius while the temperature remained close to 40 degrees in Cuttack (38.6), Bhubaneswar (38.2), Angul (38.5), Baripada (39), Balangir (38.8), Titlagarh (39), Nayagarh (38.8) and Boudh (39).

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Boudh, Angul, Mayurbhanj and Koraput districts.
March 30
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj with hailstorm at one or two places in Kandhamal, Boudh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts.
March 31
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
