Bhubaneswar: As heatwave conditions further intensified across Odisha, maximum temperature touched at 46 degree Celsius or more at four places in the state on Wednesday.
As per the evening bulletin of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Balangir recorded a maximum temperature of 46.3 degree Celsius to become the hottest place in the state for the day.
Balangir was closely followed by Sonepur which recorded day temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius, while the mercury stood at 46 degree Celsius in Titilagarh and Jharsuguda.
At least ten places in the state recorded maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius or more. Sambalpur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5 degree Celsius, while Boudh recorded 45.3 degree Celsius and Hirakud 45.1 degree Celsius. The mercury stood at 44.5 degree in Bhawanipatna, and 44 degree Celsius in both Nuapada and Bargarh.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximu temperature of 39.8 degree Celsius, while it was 38 degree Celsius in Cuttack.
The day temperature is likely to rise by 3-5 degree Celsius during the next two days, the Met Centre said.
Heat wave to severe heat wave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir till May 31, it added.
Orange warning has been issued for Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Balangir districts till May 30. Heatwave condition may also prevail in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Deogarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Angul during this period.
Warm night conditions are likely in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Bargarh. Hot and humid weather conditions may also occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts till May 30.
People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during the peak hours of the day time between 11 am and 3 pm during these 3 days when the day temperature is expected to touch 46°C.
