Kozhikode: In a plan gone horribly wrong, a temple priest was caught moving around in Koyilandy, near here, wearing a burqa.
Auto drivers at Koyilandy junction found something suspicious about 28-year-old Jishnu Namboothiri, who had his head and body covered by a garment worn by Muslim women.
They intercepted him at Koyilandy junction and found out that he was a man in disguise, and decided to hand him over to the police.
The man, who works as a priest at a Hindu temple near Meppayur, told police that he was wearing a burqa as he had contracted chicken pox.
Police personnel, however, could not find any trace of chicken pox on preliminary examination.
Despite being caught lying, the man was let off after verifying his name, address and other details.
“There was no complaint against him for committing any crime. So we let him go after his relatives came to the police station,” a police official said.
