Nuapada: In a major road accident, 10 pilgrims including four members of a family of Chhattisgarh were killed near Silda, close to the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border late on Monday night.
According to police, 10 pilgrims including four women of Pithora area of Chhattisgarh had come to Komana in Nuapada district for the darshan of Goddess Vaishno Devi. After the darshan, they were on their way back to their native place when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their vehicle at about 2 am killing all of them on the spot.
Following information, a team of the Nuapada police rushed to the spot and informed the family members of the deceased.
The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Agrawal, Meghnad Nishad, Surjeet Singh Jabda, Dinesh Dandasena, Chandni Dandesena, Bharati Dandasena, Dhananjay Dandasena, Meena Pareswar, Dileswari Netam and Dharmen Netam.
Talking to mediapersons, Nuapada IIC Bibekananda Mahanta, said of the 10 pilgrims who died on the spot, there is a whole family of four, comprising the husband, wife, their son and daughter. “We have informed the Chhattisgarh police about the incident and asked them to inform the family members of the deceased. Since the accident took place in Silda, the Chhattisgarh police will take the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem,” the IIC said.
