Bhubaneswar: A tender has been floated for the procurement of 39 coaches at Rs 509.68 crore for Bhubaneswar metro rail by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
According to sources, as part of the Bhubaneswar Metro, 13 trains with three coaches will run between Biju Patnaik International Airport and Trisulia in the first phase.
The DMRC floated the tender on July 18. The bids will be opened on September 2. A pre-bid meeting will be held on August 2. The contract period for these coaches will be three years and the prototype will be delivered within two years. The remaining coaches will be delivered in phases in another one year, the sources added.
Earlier this month, SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) was declared as the preferred bidder for Bhubaneswar Metro Phase 1 project’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract BCDD-01 by the DMRC.
The scope of Package BCDD-01 includes finalising a design standard of two precast elements – U-girders and pier caps & bearings – for 26.04 km Bhubaneswar Metro Line-1‘s viaduct which will connect Biju Patnaik Airport and Trisulia Square via 20 elevated stations.
DMRC had invited bids for this consultancy contract in May 2024 with a Rs. 97.02 lakh estimate (excluding GST) and 36 month contract duration. Technical bids were opened on June 4 to reveal SYSTRA as the only bidder which instantly made them front-runner for the contract, the sources added.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra had earlier informed that the state government will strive to complete the metro project in the city within the fixed timeline.
On January 1, 2024, Odisha’s former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the proposed Bhubaneswar metro rail project at Trisulia. Odisha government has roped in DMRC for the project with a deadline of four years. The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) will have an investment of Rs 6,255 crore in the first phase.
The first phase of the metro rail project will cover 26 km with 20 stations- Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nanadankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari and Trisulia Square.
