Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in the Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Autonomous College (BJB) College in Bhubaneswar following a clash between two groups of students over Tiranga Yatra on the occasion of Independence Day.
According to sources, several students took out a Tiranga march holding National Flags and tried to proceed through the college campus.
However, another group of students refused to allow the Tiranga Yatra inside the college campus and allegedly locked the main gate.
Angry over attempts to disrupt their march, the students who had taken out the procession staged a sit-in near the college gate with Tricolours in their hands.
Stating that Tiranga Yatra is being organised in almost all the educational institutions, the protesters said they also wanted to take out a march inside the college campus after seeking permission from the Principal.
They further alleged that the posters and banners put by them were torn by the rival group, owing allegiance to a particular political party.
The other group, however, claimed that those who organised the march included several non-students and they tried to give a political colour to the entire episode. Moreover, there is a particular time for hoisting the National Flag and Tiranga Yatra should not be taken out as per anyone’s whims and fancies, they added.
