Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Lingipur Chhak on Friday after a group of unidentified miscreants fired two rounds in the air.
However, no injury or casualty was reported in the incident.
According to available information, the incident took place just minutes after some BJD activists staged a protest at Lingipur petrol pump against rising petrol and diesel prices. Three miscreants came on a four-wheeler, opened fire in the air and fled the spot immediately.
Following this, a group of locals staged a road blockade near the spot by burning tyres demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the incident.
Owing to the blockade, movement of vehicles was disrupted on Bhubaneswar-Puri Road for several hours.
The locals alleged that the incident was the fallout of a clash that broke out between two groups over some issue in the recent past.
The situation was brought under control after officials from Dhauli police station reached the place and pacified the protestors by assuring them action against the accused after investigation.
The filling station has been sealed and adequate police personnel deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
