Bhopal: There was tension in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district after a group of Dalit boys, who allegedly teased some upper caste girls, were beaten up.
The 5 minor boys have been taken into custody on a complaint by the girls. Six upper caste persons were also arrested for allegedly thrashing the boys, PTI quoted a police official as saying on Sunday.
The incident, which took place in Gurla village – located around 30 km from the district headquarters – prompted the police to deploy additional security forces.
According to Unhel police station in-charge Krishan Lalchandani, some minor boys belonging to Dalit community allegedly passed lewd comments at upper caste girls on Friday evening, but no one complained to the police.
On Saturday morning, some upper caste persons brought the Dalit boys to the police station after roughing them up and complained that they had teased girls from their community.
The girls then went to the police station and on the basis of their complaint, a case was registered against the quintet under relevant sections of POCSO Act and IPC, Lalchandani said.
Following a medical examination of the boys who were beaten, a case was then registered against five identified and other unidentified persons from an upper caste under provisions of IPC and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
“The situation in Gurla is now under control. We took out a flag march on Saturday evening. If needed, we will take out another flag march,” Lalchandani said.
