Cuttack: Tension mounted at Jagatpur in the city as the locals staged a dharna opposing the evacuation drive by Cuttack Municipal Corporation for widening of road on Wednesday.
According to sources, as soon as the CMC officials accompanied by police arrived for evacuation and demolition of shops and unathorised structures along both sides of the road from Jagatpur square to Nimpur field, the shop-keepers, slum-dwellers and locals staged a dharna.
They demanded the state government to announce their rehabilitation plan and set up a vending zone for the affected shop-keepers before taking up the demolition as in the case of the city.
However, the agitators withdrew their protest after officials of city administration assured them of fulfilling their demands.
