Kendrapada: Tension prevailed at Pattamundai in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Saturday as hundreds of people staged a demonstration in front of the local police station demanding action against the accused who had assaulted the BDO.
According to sources, the local people, led by sarpanchs and panchayat samiti members in the block went in a rally to Pattamundai police station and staged a demonstration there.
Tension prevailed in the area as the agitators tried to break into the police station. However, the situation was brought under control as additional police forces were rushed to the [pot.
The agitating people demanded that the four accused, who had been granted bail for the assault on the Pattamundai BDO, should not be spared by police. They alleged that the court granted bail to the accused due to inefficiency of the police. Later, they submitted a memorandum, addressed to the district SP.
Admitting that the agitators had given their memorandum, Additional SP of Kendrapada Debashis Dhal told the media that they would look into their demands and take necessary actions accordingly.
It may be noted that four youths, reportedly belonging to a political party had abused the BDO and also assaulted him. Following hue and cry over the incident, the police had arrested the accused. Later, they were released on bail by the court.
