Jagatsinghpur: Tension prevailed at the JSW’s proposed steel plant site in the district as some villagers protested demolition of betel vines for the project on Friday.
As per reports, the incident took place while some villagers of Dhinkia panchayat were going to stop demolition of betel vines. They alleged that the district administration was carrying out demolition of the betel vines and eviction from houses forcibly for the project.
When the police deployed there tried to prevent them from marching forward, a scuffle ensued between the villagers including women and the police.
As the situation escalated with villagers reportedly turning violent, the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.
Tension prevailed in the area as the stand-off between continued between the protesting villagers and police.
