Cuttack: Tension erupted at Mahanga of Salepur in Cuttack district, following the death of a minor girl on Saturday, with the locals staging a blockade at the Ostamula Square here alleging medical negligence.
According to the sources, the minor girl was suffering from blood cancer and undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. On Friday, the hospital authorities, alleged the aggrieved father, refused to admit her and instead ask him to bring her to the hospital on Monday.
“As her condition deteriorated, we took her to Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre. She died while undergoing treatment at the OPD,” he said.
Jena demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation from Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena, whom he claimed to have earlier apprised of the medical negligence and requested for facilitating her treatment.
Later, the irate locals and the family members staged a road blockade by burning tyres and placing her body on the road.
They withdrew the blockade after local Tehsildar reached the spot and assured them that their demands will be fulfilled. A financial assistance of Rs 10,000 was also provided to the next of the kin of the deceased.
Police personnel were deployed on the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
