Islamabad: Imran Khan was on Monday granted transit bail till August 25 after he filed a pre-arrest bail application in Islamabad High Court to avoid being arrested in a terrorism case filed against him, reported Geo News.
An FIR was filed against Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister under the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening police, judiciary and other state institutions during a rally in Islamabad on Saturday.
Imran’s lawyers Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry stated in the petition that their client was a target of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement government for his fearless criticism, and extremely bold and blunt stance against corruption and corrupt politicians, the Dawn reported.
To achieve their malicious agenda, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police acted in a most unfortunate and clumsy manner, and registered a false and frivolous complaint against Imran at the behest of the incumbent government, the petition claimed.
Imran’s lawyers further alleged that the government has decided to cross all limits and arrest Imran under false accusations and was hell-bent on sorting out the petitioner and his party at all costs.
In his speech on Saturday, Imran had threatened to file cases against top police officials, a woman magistrate, Election Commission of Pakistan and political opponents over treatment meted out to his aide Shahbaz Gill, who was arrested last week on charges of sedition.
