New Delhi: Shahzad Ahmad, a terrorist who was serving a life term in the 2008 Batla House encounter case, died at AIIMS here on Saturday.
Shahzad, a member of Islamic terrorist group Indian Mujahideen, had been unwell for some time. He was admitted to GTB hospital in December 2022 for pancreatitis and gall bladder stones, before being referred to AIIMS on January 11.
Shahbaz was involved in several crimes, including the September 13, 2008 serial blasts in the nation’s Capital which killed 26 people and injured 133.
Following the serial blasts, Delhi Police conducted a raid at L-18, Batla House, New Delhi on September 19.
An encounter broke out between five occupants of Batla House and police forces, which led to Delhi Police’s special cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma being shot dead.
Of the five terrorists, two were killed in the encounter.
Shahzad, who was arrested from Lucknow in February 2010, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court in July 2013.
He was lodged in Tihar jail before being hospitalised for treatment.
Inspector Sharma was awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously.
