Delhi: Elon Musk’s automotive company Tesla has kicked off its recruitment drive in India, signalling its plans to enter the world’s third-biggest auto market.
The company posted job advertisements on its LinkedIn page on Monday for 13 roles across multiple sectors, including vehicle service, sales, customer support, operations, and business support.
The postings come less than a week after Musk’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to Washington.
According to Reuters, Tesla has shortlisted space to lease in the Aerocity area near New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and in the business and retail hub of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) near the Mumbai airport for its showrooms. “Tesla plans to sell imported EVs in India … these deals are for showrooms, not service centres,” the report added, citing a source.

According to LinkedIn, five positions each are based in both Mumbai and Delhi. The remaining roles are focused on Mumbai.
How to apply?
Candidates interested in applying for these roles can follow these steps:
Tesla’s Entry in India
As per a report, Tesla’s entry into the Indian market has been delayed, primarily due to high import duties. However, in March last year, the Indian government reduced import duties on electric vehicles, with the condition that companies invest at least $500 million in local manufacturing.
Recently, India also lowered customs duties on luxury cars from 110% to 70% for vehicles priced over $40,000, which could encourage Tesla to expand further. With electric car sales in India reaching nearly 1 lakh units last year, Tesla is expected to launch a more affordable EV in India this year, with a lower-cost version of the Model 3, to stay competitive in the market.
