Boston: A Tesla car, from Elon Musk’s electric vehicles stable, was burnt beyond recognition in the US.
A family travelling to a relative’s place in Massachusetts had to stop in the middle of a highway as smoke started emanating from their Tesla Model S car.
The Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department took to Facebook to share that they battled the flames and smoke for nearly two hours due to the Tesla’s lithium-ion battery.
“In total, approximately 12,000 gallons of water was utilised. To give you an idea of the severity, crews can normally extinguish a fully involved vehicle fire with approximately 500 gallons or less,” the Fire department wrote along with sharing pictures of the destructive aftermath of the incident.
The Fire department also mentioned that the car burnt “so hot and long” that one may not have recognized it to be a vehicle it if it was not for the rims.
Even the Tesla brand was not recognisable after the fire was completely extinguished.
These are not good times for Musk. Earlier this month, two people were killed and three others injured when a Tesla lost control and travelled at high speed before slamming into a truck and crashing into a building in China.
