Bhubaneswar: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been appointed to Twitter’s board of directors a day after he purchased 9.2% stake in the company.
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced Musk’s appointment to the board on Twitter Tuesday, stating that the billionaire would bring ‘great value’ to the company. “I’m excited to share that we’re appointing @elonmusk to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board,” Parag tweeted.
“He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on @Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term. Welcome Elon!,” said Parag.
Musk had declared purchase of 9.2% stake in Twitter Inc, worth about $3 billion, on Monday, leading the stock value to to surge by more than 27%.
It may be noted that Musk has been critical of Twitter and its policies recetly, accusing the company of failing to adhere to free speech principles. “Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?”, he tweeted in last week of March.
The billionaire, who is a prolific Twitter user, had also said he was giving ‘serious thought’ to launching a new social media platform.
