Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined a host of celebrities and virtually the whole nation in wishing Rajnikanth aka Shivajirao Gaekwad on his 70th birthday.
Here is what the PM tweeted:
The excitement around the launch of his political party in January 2021, five months before the Tamil Nadu elections, makes this birthday special for the veteran actor. He has been criticised for the delay in announcing his debut but as his dialogue from the film ‘Muthi’ goes, “Naan eppa varuven, eppadi varuvennu yarukkum theriyadhu, aana varavendiya neratthil correct aga varuven” (When I will come or how I will come, nobody knows, but I will arrive when the time is right)’.
His fans had begun assembling before his residence in Chennai this morning, holding banners and sporting T-shirts printed with his photographs, NDTV reported.
A number of them, especially those associated with the Rajini Makkal Manram, a forum of the star’s fans, will be involved in charity work to mark the day like they do every year, the report added.
A day earlier, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvamwished Rajinikanth with a tweet in Tamil. Last week he had welcomed Rajinikanth’s announcement of his political debut and even hoped for an alliance.
A R Rahman released a common display picture marking the occasion on Twitter on behalf of the veteran actor’s fans.
