Mumbai: The Cyber Crime Department of Thane Police have arrested two persons over alleged obscene social media posts about Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) Rupali Chakankar, a prominent woman leader of the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Earlier, Chakankar had submitted a list of 32 individuals to the police, accusing them of posting vulgar comments about her on Instagram and Facebook. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police arrested Sunny Parkhe from Gangapur, Nashik and Jagannath Hate from Chunabhatti, Mumbai.
Both have been charged under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for stalking, insulting the modesty of a woman, and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
Chakankar had been the target of similar offensive social media posts earlier too. In December 2023, the Pune Police detained Vasant Rameshrao Khule, a 34-year-old resident of Rahati, Parbhani district for his involvement in spreading objectionable content.
