Mumbai: Faced with backlash from some quarters following the release of the film’s trailer, the makers of ‘Thank God’ have made some changes to try and steer of legal ramifications.
The name of Ajay Devgn’s character in the film has been altered from Chitragupt to CG and his associate Yamdoot’s to YD.
A court case was filed in UP and a police complaint lodged in Rajasthan, alleging that the Indra Kumar-directed film hurts religious sentiments.
A petition was also filed in Supreme Court, seeking stay of the film’s release. The top court, however, refused to list it on urgent notice and will hear the matter on November 21.
‘Thank God’ is scheduled for Diwali release, on October 25.
The main objection was against using the name of Chitragupta — the deity of records and accounts according to Hindu mythology — as it has been shown in the film.
Some other modifications have also been made by the filmmakers. The logo of a liquor brand has been blurred, a temple scene has been changed to a different angle a disclaimer’s content added at the beginning of the film.
‘Thank God’ – which also stars Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh — is set to release in theatres on the occasion of Diwali on October 25. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s action adventure film Ram Setu. As per trade sources, both films’ advance bookings began on Thursday on a promising note with Ram Setu just ahead by a whisker for now.
‘Thank God’ on Friday received a U/A certificate from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
