The Ministry of Home Affairs is allowing theatres to reopen in Delhi with 50 percent capacity from October 15. Many movies are slated for re-releases in cinemas. These include blockbusters such as Tapasee Pannu’s ‘Thappad’, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’, and Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘Kedarnath’ among others.
The announcement was made in a tweet by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He wrote: “As cinemas ready to reopen their doors from this week onwards, the list of #Hindi films scheduled for re-release this week is OFFICIALLY announced…#Tanhaji #ShubhMangalZyadaSaavdhan #Malang #Kedarnath #Thappad More films will be scheduled in coming days.”
In a follow-up tweet, he added Hritik Roshan’s ‘War’ to the list of re-releases. He wrote: “The list of #Hindi films re-releasing in cinemas keeps growing… In addition to the five titles mentioned earlier [#Tanhaji, #ShubhMangalZyadaSaavdhan, #Malang, #Kedarnath, #Thappad], there’s a prominent addition to the list: #War… More films will be scheduled in coming days.”
He added that some movies were considered for release on OTT platforms. However, multiplex chains, including PVR, INOX, Cinnepolis objected. He wrote “IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT… There was talk that films premiered on #OTT platforms [#DilBechara, #Sadak2, #ShakuntalaDevi, #KhudaHaafiz, #GunjanSaxena, #GulaboSitabo] *might* release in cinemas… But leading multiplex chains [#PVR, #INOX, #Carnival] decide NOT TO SCREEN these films.”
The decision to reopen theatres was subject to guidelines issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that ‘they will have to follow all the guidelines laid out by the central government,’ according to a report by Livemint.
