Hapur: Four young men were killed and a 17-year-old boy injured when their speeding Thar spun out of control on the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district on Monday.

The SUV turned turtle and flipped a number of times before ending up as a pile of junk, the police said.

The incident took place around midnight when the Delhi-registered vehicle with the five occupants – mostly youngsters – was travelling from the Budaun district in Uttar Pradesh towards the national capital, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was speeding and eventually lost control, the police said.

The youngsters were trapped inside. On receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the occupants to the Sikheda community health centre.

While four of the occupants – Joginder (26), Sukhbir (25), Jaswant (20) and Ravi (20) – were declared dead at the hospital, Vishnu (17) is undergoing treatment, the police said.

The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination, Simbhaoli Police Station House Officer Arvind Chaudhary said.

“A detailed investigation is underway,” he said.

The police said they are also trying to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash, including the speed of the SUV.
