New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor received six stitches on his head after injuring himself while offering prayers at a temple in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, reported various TV channels.
According to NDTV, Tharoor was weighing himself on a giant scale as part of the “thulabharam” ritual during the Kerala new year of Vishu when the accident took place. During the ritual, a person sits on the scale against offerings like fruit and sweets that equal the devotee’s body weight.
News18 reported that Tharoor injured himself when the weighing scale on which he was sitting, at the Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Thampanoor, after the weighing scale on which the leader was sitting, broke and fell.
After he injured himself, Tharoor was rushed to a hospital, where doctors applied six stitches and said the MP was out of danger.
In a photo taken by those who accompanied Tharoor, he is seen in a crisp yellow kurta sitting cross-legged on the scale, suspended above the ground by four iron chain links.
