The Kashmir Files Effect: President Kovind Urged To Reopen Kashmiri Pandits’ Cases

New Delhi: Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ has led to a political debate and opened up a Pandora’s box.

Based on the Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus from the valley in 1990s, the film has been praised by the BJP top brass including PM Narendra Modi and questioned about its authenticity by some Opposition leaders.

Now, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal has written to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking justice for Kashmiri Pandits who were victims of the ‘massacre’. He has urged the President to direct reopening of all cases and constituting an SIT to probe the cases.

In his letter, Jindal wrote that the SIT should “thoroughly investigate the cases reported till now and provide a platform to the victims who were unable to report their cases previously due to unfavourable circumstances prevailing then with the objective of ensuring justice.”

“If matters pertaining to anti-Sikh riots, which took place 33 years ago, can be reopened and reinvestigated then even the cases of the Kashmiri pundits, which happened 27 years ago, can also be reopened and reinvestigated,” he argued.

The advocate also noted that victims of the incidents were in a state of “physical, emotional and mental trauma and struggling for their livelihood for past many years and they were not in a state to get their complaints registered, statements recorded and therefore are devoid of an opportunity to justice.”

The film, which is doing extremely well in the box office since being released in theatres on March 11, stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar among others.
